Some cookies are needed for a shop to work at all — a basket that forgets itself is not much use. Everything beyond that we ask for first.

What a cookie is

A small file stored by your browser when you visit a site. It lets the site remember things between pages and between visits. We use the word loosely here to cover similar technologies too, such as local storage and pixels.

How we ask

On your first visit you will see a consent banner. Strictly necessary cookies are set regardless — the law allows this because the site cannot function without them. Nothing in the analytics or marketing categories is set unless you accept it.

You can change your choices at any time through the cookie settings link in the footer, or by clearing cookies in your browser.

The cookies we use

Strictly necessary

Always on. These make the shop work and cannot be switched off.

Cookie Set by What it does Lasts
cart, cart_ts, cart_sig Shopify Remembers what is in your basket Up to 2 weeks
_secure_session_id Shopify Keeps you in the same session as you move through checkout 24 hours
secure_customer_sig Shopify Keeps you logged in, if you have an account 1 year
_shopify_essential Shopify Core platform function and fraud prevention 1 year
localization Shopify Remembers your country and currency 1 year
anaar_popup_seen anaar & co. Remembers that you have already seen the newsletter pop-up, so it is shown once Until you clear your browser storage

Analytics

Only with your consent. These tell us which pages are read and where people give up.

Cookie Set by What it does Lasts
_shopify_y, _shopify_s Shopify Analytics Counts visits and sessions Up to 1 year
_ga, _ga_* [ANALYTICS PROVIDER — remove this row if not used] Distinguishes visitors and measures how the site is used Up to 2 years

Marketing

Only with your consent. These measure whether an ad worked.

Cookie Set by What it does Lasts
_fbp [META PIXEL — remove this row if not used] Measures results from ads and builds audiences 3 months

Note for launch: this table must be verified against the cookies the live site actually sets before the shop opens, and re-checked whenever an app is installed. A cookie table that does not match reality is a compliance problem in itself.

Turning cookies off in your browser

Every browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop the basket and checkout from working.
